morris fuller benton

This assignment was to create a poster using the three elements of an original monogram, a photo, and a biography all inspired by a famous typographer.

All typefaces included in this project had to relate to our typographer. For the monogram I wanted the letters to stand out more than the typeface, so I went with Bodoni, a font that Benton revived during his career. I worked with negative space to add in his middle initial within a small space. Since most of Benton’s career was in New York City, I wanted my photo to be representative of that, so I went with a classic silhouette of the Statue of Liberty. To showcase more of his typefaces, I added a low opacity alphabet of Broadway Engraved to the background of the image, as well as to balance out the amount of body copy on the left of the poster.
